If you are interested in achieving a just and secure society for all Australians, AGD is the workplace for you! AGD has a challenging and exciting policy and program agenda in which our Indigenous employees are actively involved.
The Department supports the recruitment, development and career progression of Indigenous Australians in the Australian Public Service (APS) through participation in various employment programs.
The Department participates in the Indigenous Entry Level Recruitment Program (IELRP) coordinated by the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC). The Program is a 12 month traineeship that is designed to recruit applicants with limited experience in government into ongoing employment in the APS. Employees undertake a combination of on the job and formal training that will result in a Certificate III in Government or a Certificate IV in Government qualification. Details on the program can be found at www.apsc.gov.au
AGD offers Indigenous trainees:
(If a Trainee is less than 21, age rates apply as set out at clause 3.13 of the Collective Agreement)
The Department is seeking Indigenous trainees who are interested in undertaking a nationally recognised 12 month traineeship. AGD’s trainees need to be motivated, enthusiastic, possess integrity, and have good communication, interpersonal, analytical and research skills. Successful applicants through the APSC recruitment process will be employed as ongoing employees of AGD subject to the successful completion of the traineeship.
The Indigenous Graduate Recruitment Initiatives is coordinated by the APSC. The program is designed to increase pathways to APS employees for Indigenous people and promote the APS as an employer of choice amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tertiary graduates.
Participants join the Department's Graduate Program through the APSC program. AGD Graduates have access to a structured and comprehensive learning and development program. Further information on the Attorney-General’s Department Graduate Program can be found at www.ag.gov.au.
Indigenous trainees and graduates work on a diverse range of projects and may have the opportunity to work in:
The Department supports Indigenous employees through the Indigenous Mentor Program. The Mentor Program couples trainees with experienced APS staff to share professional and personal skills and experiences. The mentoring relationship is based upon encouragement, constructive comments, openness, mutual trust, respect and a willingness to learn and share.
IAPSENs are self-determined forums run by APS Indigenous employees and are supported by the Department. These networks provide a means for Indigenous employees to support each other, share information and experiences, and promote cultural awareness and respect in the wider Australian Public Service. Networks exist across Australia.
