The Attorney-General's Department supports the Attorney-General in pursuing the establishment of a national legal profession, under which a lawyer with a right to practise in one State and Territory will be able to seemlessly practise in other States and Territories. The national legal profession project is also designed to ensure that there is a consistent approach to regulation of legal practice Australia wide, in the interests of consumers of legal services and the profession.
The Department also assists the Attorney-General in promoting Australia's interests in the trade in legal services.
