The International Criminal Court

The Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department is responsible for crime cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC) and administering Australia’s legislation for the Court.

The ICC is an independent, permanent court that tries persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.  Detailed information on the ICC can be found on the Court’s website.

Design of the Court’s permanent premises

The design and construction of a permanent building for the ICC is an important step in the development of the Court as an international judicial institution.  It is hoped that the new building will enable the Court to discharge its duties effectively and reflect the significance of its establishment.  The Australian Government has been a strong supporter of the ICC and would welcome Australian-based architectural firms submitting designs to the competition.

The design competition is organised by the Chief Government Architect of The Netherlands.

Prospective candidates have until 1 April 2008 to submit their applications for pre-selection.  The design competition has already been advertised in international press and in Architecture Australia
