Policy and Services

Policy and Services Branch is responsible for developing and disseminating protective security policy.  The branch also provides training in protective security, security clearance vetting services, and protective security for the Department.  The branch provides policy advice to the Government on protective security issues and is responsible for formulating government standards and guidelines to assist Australian Government agencies create and foster a secure environment.

Policy Section

The Policy Section provides secretariat services to the Protective Security Policy Committee (PSPC).  The PSPC is a high-level interdepartmental consultative committee responsible for protective security policy across the Australian Government.

As part of its support to the PSPC, the Policy Section manages the policy development of, and distributes, the Australian Government Protective Security Manual (PSM).  The PSM is the primary means for disseminating Australian Government protective security policies, principles, standards and procedures. 

The Policy Section provides advice to Agency Security Advisers (ASAs) and Information Technology Security Advisers (ITSAs) on issues relating to protective security policy and practices.  The Policy Section coordinates and manages forums annually in all regions and bi-annually in the ACT to communicate current and emerging protective security issues.   The Protective Security Policy website, managed by the Policy Section, provides ASAs and ITSAs with protective security reference materials and policy updates.

PSCC Training Centre

The PSCC Training Centre provides protective security training for Australian Government personnel.  The PSCC Training Centre is a Registered Training Organisation under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

The Centre provides courses on protective security issues: information, physical, personnel (vetting) and administrative security. 

In addition, the PSCC Training Centre offers security awareness training, either on-line or in-house, and customised protective security courses.  All training is delivered on a fee-for-service basis.

Australian Security Vetting Service

The Australian Security Vetting Service (ASVS) provides personnel security vetting services to a wide range of Australian Government agencies on a fee-for-service basis.

Departmental Security Unit

The Departmental Security Unit (DSU), manages the protective security function for the Attorney-General’s Department.
