The Attorney-General’s Department, IP Australia, the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts and the Department of Finance and Administration are working together to develop a whole of government approach to the management of intellectual property (IP) by government agencies.
The objective of a whole of government approach is to assist agencies in the management of their IP and encourage adoption of good practice in the creation, procurement and use of IP. This will include the provision of a source of practical advice to assist in making decisions affecting ownership of IP.
A draft Statement of IP Principles has been developed to provide a focus for consultation. When finalised and approved by Ministers, it is intended that the IP principles will, in broad terms, articulate the Government’s approach to IP use and management.
An issues paper providing further background information and a list of issues for consideration by stakeholders is also available.
Comments on the draft Statement of IP Principles are due by 11 November 2005 and may be submitted to:
