Introduction to Personnel Security

Award – Certificate III in Government (Security)

This Certificate III (Personnel Security Stream) program is delivered in two modules, including the Introduction to Personnel Security course (5 days) and the Introduction to Security Risk Management course (2 days).

Course aim

The aim of the 5-day Introduction to Personnel Security (IPERS) course is to provide vetting case officers with the skills necessary to complete personnel security assessments (vetting) up to, and including, Secret level, which do not require a formal interview.

 

This program provides the foundation for personnel security assessing officers.  It is designed to develop and enhance participants' understanding, knowledge and skills to conduct assessments of an individual's suitability for access to security-classified information, entry to secure areas, or access to, or control of, vital and valuable assets.
The program includes workshops and syndicate discussions that provide an opportunity for participants to apply the skills gained during the course in preparation for their return to the workplace.

Develop the underpinning knowledge and skills to:

  • collect, analyse and evaluate personal information
  • make recommendations on security assessment outcomes, and
  • record and report on security assessment outcomes.

Course prerequisites

General security awareness training conducted in agencies.

Course co-requisites

Participants are required to successfully complete the Introduction to Security Risk management course to qualify for the Certificate III in Government (Security) award.
