Course aim

The aim of the 2-day Introduction to Security Risk Management (ISRM) course is to provide participants with a general knowledge of security risk management principles and terminology to enable them to work competently within a security risk management framework.  The course uses workshops, case studies, and practical examples to develop further understanding and enhance competence in the application of Risk Management processes applied in a protective security environment.

The course is based on the provisions of the Australian - New Zealand Standard on Risk Management (AS/NZ 4360:2004), and the Standards Australia / Standards New Zealand Handbook on Risk Management HB 167:2006.

The course offers a Statement of Attainment in two units of competency towards a Certificate IV in Government (Security), or a Certificate IV in Government (Personnel Security).

Learning objectives

Develop the skills and knowledge to:

  • communicate and consult
  • establish the risk context
  • gather and analyse information
  • identify and analyse risks
  • assess and prioritise risks to underpin development of a security plan
  • identify security counter-measures
  • develop a formal security plan
  • implement a security plan
  • monitor the risk environment, and
  • evaluate a security plan.
